Nobility has nothing to do with ones’ position in life. Rather, it has everything to do with ones “position” in Christ.

Questions To Ponder Today

1.  What is nobility?
2.  Do you want to be noble?
3.  Do you want to be considered as having more worth than a priceless jewel?
4.  Why are women so lacking in noble character?

This afternoon I was digging deeper into the words of King Solomon.  His lament in Ecclesiastes 7:28 particularly captured my attention.  He writes: “While I was still searching but not finding– I found one upright man among a thousand, but not one upright woman among them all.”  What?  And then in Proverbs 31:10 it is written that [bA wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.  I’ve read that passage countless times, but for some reason today, it especially resonated with me.
Solomon is describing an excellent, virtuous, “noble woman”.    So the natural question is …Why are virtuous women so hard to find?  What is it about us women that we are so easily deceived and/or corrupted?  Now before you get all mad at me remember “I” didn’t say it, but Solomon in the scriptures undeniably states it.  Further,  1Kings 11:1-3 indicates that King Solomon had 700 hundred wives and 300 hundred concubines, many from lands of which God had previously instructed the Israelites to avoid intermarrying.   Scripture further reads that his wives turned away his heart. So you see, Solomon knew a thing or two about women.

Nobility

What is Nobility?  I typed in the words “noble woman” into google, and I discovered endless images of “noble women” (like the one you see on the left).  It is interesting what I found in the definition for “noble woman”.  It read, a woman of noble rank.  I also found the words, dame, lady, milady, gentlewoman, peeress.  I am confident this is NOT what Solomon meant by the word “noble”.  Obviously there is a great difference between a noble “titled” woman, for instance a Queen, and a woman of noble character.  Of course they could be one and the same, however, history has shown us that this indeed is rare for we know that power and privilege greatly change people and very few escape corruption.

No, Solomon is talking about a kind of nobility that has nothing to do with ones rank, cast or position in life.  But it IS a position that every single woman can possess if she is willing to work at it.  Obviously Solomon is referring to nobility of character.  “Her worth can be even more valuable than rubies.”  Imagine that?  She CAN BE the rare one who achieves the status of true nobility.  Could it be that Solomon had so many women because he kept looking for this elusive quality?  How do I know I can not only aspire to this position in life but I can possess it?  I know because I have the instruction course on how to be transformed from something cheap and inexpensive into a rare and priceless jewel.  I have the very words of God given to us in His Word, The Holy Bible, our instruction manual for an abundant life which would have been pleasing to Solomon, but more importantly to God.

Do you want to be noble?  Why should you want to be more rare and noble than a priceless jewel?  Well maybe you don’t and you can stop reading right now, but maybe you’ve lived long enough to understand that there is a reason to aspire to what God sees as noble, even priceless.   Or maybe you’re just curious.  Let’s move on.

BusinessmenJumpingPhoto2Do you want to be considered as having more worth than a priceless jewel?
To achieve the character of a priceless jewel?  Be warned!  There is a cost.  The price is death.  Stay with me now because you don’t have to go shoot yourself, jump off a building or take some lethal dose of anything, but you do have to die.  But before you die, you have to live.  You have to live long enough to understand that there is nothing good in you, and that the sooner you realize this, the sooner you will be willing to die.  Like many before me, I didn’t want anything to do with God, I promise.   Again, please don’t get mad at me, I didn’t say it, God did, (see Romans 3:10)  Some of us only have to live a few years to learn the lesson of Romans 3:10, and some only learn this after having lived decades with lots of mistakes, including dark or unwise choices we’ve left behind us.

Okay, back to dying.  Dying sounds extreme right?  It is not within any normal human being to want to die is it?  But if dying is the only way to become this rare jewel then we must do it.  Now obviously I’m referring to “dying to ones self”.  Scripture is replete with references to laying down ones’ life,  taking up your cross, dying daily, etc.  If you’ve gotten this far in this article then it could be the Spirit of God is knocking on your heart’s door right this very moment.  You read the words of scripture about the person you “could” become, if only.  If only what?

Why are women so lacking, (in noble character) not only today, but over the course of history?  That question deserves an exhaustive study on its own, but I’d venture a guess that the women in Solomon’s day were fairly godless and modeling their behavior with the cultures around them.   Pagan religions were the norm in his day.  Click here to read more about that.  But I don’t think it’s too difficult to guess at why godly women were so scarce today or in history.  Women (and men) are simply selfish, and self absorbed, not selfless.  Most of us (except for a few holy days during the year) forget God and don’t want to consider his call to us.

noble characterIf we look at some of the attributes of [female] noble character in scripture we see the following:   A woman who is not idle or lazy, a hard working woman, who understands business and trading, she is wise, she is concerned with the poor and needy, she cares for her husband, children and all the people in her household, even her hired help, she has strength, she has dignity, she fears the Lord.  So you see, nobility has nothing to do with ones’ position in life.  Rather, it has everything to do with ones “position” in Christ.  We shouldn’t want nobility for nobility’s sake, or to somehow appear morally superior, or to live up to some perceived set of rules.  No we should want to be noble because we know it pleases The Lord.  But, if we have never come to the place in our heart where we finally fully surrender, then we will never realize nobility.

Further, God has promised us that we can be transformed, we can be new in everything, but we must die.  The only way to die, is to live for Christ and that is outside the scope of this article.

As for me, I’m asking myself today, will I be that one? I want to be.  I make mistakes.  I’m far from perfect.  I can do better.  But I’m so glad that my “position” in Christ was settled decades ago when I bowed my knees and my heart and accepted Jesus as my King.  At that very moment, I became his daughter.  I became noble.  I became nobility. Imagine that?  From an inexpensive costume jewelry kind of person to a priceless jewel.

Thank you Lord Jesus for dying so that we might live.  Thank you for the opportunity to one day cast our crowns before your throne in Heaven.  You are our King, and we are your royal daughters.  Help us Lord to live up to your vision for us.

P.S.  By the way, and with respect,  I’d like to add that I’m glad I don’t have to wear that awful looking ruffly, uncomfortable, starched, no doubt itchy stifling, collar thingy to be noble.  Thanks again Lord.
