Fleeting Blessings

This morning a voice like an angel rang through the streets of New York and pierced the noise of the world. Many people paused or even stopped to listen to this young girl as she sang, but sadly many walked by.  The song she sang so beautifully was O Mio Babbino Caro, which in English means Oh My Dear Papa (words below). She has an amazing gift and if you closed your eyes you would be fooled into thinking you are listening to a much older and trained vocalalist.

How like those who did not stop am I sometimes!   God tries to get my attention with a blessing, even a fleeting one, and I just walk on by.  But this morning, even before 9:00 something personal happened that had already caused me to cry.  And so when I heard that voice it was as if God was whispering to my soul … “be still and know that I am God” …

Whose voice was it that so arrested my soul and stopped me in my tracks this day?  Jackie Evancho, and if she makes the right choices she could have a very blessed life ahead of her.  I’m told her recordings (at this writing) are outselling Lady GaGa, who, in my opinion does not represent what I believe any lady should be.   I pray that Jackie will walk a path through her life that takes her upward to a higher calling, for God has truly gifted her to sing some of the most beautiful music this world has to offer. Her rendition of Somewhere (with the great Barbera Streisand) is fabulous.   The Lord’s Prayer gave me goosebumps from the top of my head to the tips of my toes.  Gifted. Gifted. Gifted.

Take a listen.

What does it mean?

Oh dear daddy
I love him, he is so handsome
I want to go to Porta Rossa
to buy the ring
Yes, yes, I want to go there
And if my love were in vain
I would go to Ponte Vecchio
and throw myself in the Arno
I fret and suffer torments
Oh God, I would rather die
Daddy, have pity, have pity

Here is Jackie even younger
